Pretax Commuter Overview

Commuting to work each day can be expensive. The Pretax Commuter program offered by your employer will help you save money on your commuting costs along with the convenience of home delivery of your orders. Benesyst provides these services through an easy online enrollment and benefit management program.

Your employer is also committed to preserving the environment and reducing its carbon footprint and wants to encourage its employees to contribute to these efforts by taking public transportation.

Why should I use the Pretax Commuter program?

The Pretax Commuter program allows you to use tax-free dollars to pay for your commuting expenses and you can reduce your commuting costs by up to 40%.

What are the monthly pretax limits?

Effective January 1, 2013, pretax deductions are allowed up to the limit of $245 per month for public transportation, vanpooling and an additional $245 for parking. You can participate in both parking and transit at the same time (park-and-ride).

What other benefits does it give me?

Benesyst provides home delivery of transit products. Your desired fare passes or tickets will be sent directly to your home. You can also set up your order to be recurring, so you don't have to do anything until you want to make a change.

What expenses can be pretax?

Mass transit—may be publicly or privately operated and includes bus, rail and ferry.
Van pools and Commuter highway vehicles
Qualified Parking—parking at or near your place of employment or parking at a location from which you commute such as park-and-ride is a qualified expense.

How do I sign up?

You can enroll any month online. You must make your selections by the 10^th of the month to receive your order by the first day of the of the following month. (Please note that certain Transit Authorities, including the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad require orders to be placed by the 4^th of the previous month).
